Uluwatu Bali Surfing

Uluwatu is situated at the southern end of Bali, these days you can drive or ride all the way to the warungs on a sealed road. There are 4 different sections at Ulu; there’s Temples which is a long and hollow wave that works on the mid to high tide. The Peak right in front of the warungs in line with the cave also best on the high tide. Racetrack is a super fast but makeable barrel that works on the low tide, but gets seriously shallow. Outside corner is considered by many to be one of the best waves anywhere in the world, the corner won’t even start to break unless the swell is at least in the 8′ range, and then if your game you are in for one long and fast ride.

Crowd Factor
Uluwatu can get very crowded when the swell is in the 2-5ft range during the dry season, but when the corners breaking crowds are not much of a worry. Plus the crowds do tend to spread out between Temples and the Peak.

This surfing site is now frequently surfed by the wave riders. Nostalgically speaking, this spot was first surfed around 1970s, by a film maker named Albie Falzon. He was amazed by the waves he saw at that time, about 8 to 10 feet. Located more than one kilometer away from the famous Uluwatu Temple , this spot has the same name as the Temple . After mastering all the skills you have got from your Bali surf lessons , then you are allowed to surf in this surfing location.

Uluwatu is renowned amongst serious and professional surfers. Or we can say it’s only created for expert surfers. Now, this surfing site is also number one of the surfer’s destination list. The good thing about this spot is its great wave’s consistency. Some instructors of Odysseys Bali Surf School have surfed in this spot, mostly they loved the Outside Corner section where the waves are the best amongst the others three sections.
