What Surf Movies to watch?

When it’s bad weather and the waves are bad or the ocean is just flat. What’s a better idea than to watch a movie? We’ve listed a few great surf movies that will get you stoked to surf!

View from a blue moon

The first surf film shot in 4K, View From A Blue Moon follows the world’s most dynamic surfer John Florence and his closest friends from his home on the North Shore of Oahu to his favorite surfing destinations around the globe. From the dreamy blue perfection of the South Pacific to the darkest uncharted waters of Africa (and everywhere in between), Florence faces a broad spectrum of emotions as he continues to seal his legacy as one of the most gifted surfers ever. And while the young Hawaiian is pulled in increasingly different directions, there is no form of pressure that will keep him from his ultimate goal – to redefine what is possible in the ocean.[1]

The endless summer

The crown jewel to ten years of Bruce Brown surfing documentaries. Brown follows two young surfers around the world in search of the perfect wave, and ends up finding quite a few in addition to some colorful local characters.[2]

Proximity

Taylor Steele presents, PROXIMITY, a visceral portrait of modern surfing. The film follows eight of the world’s best surfers – four legends and four rising stars – as they search for new waves and deeper understanding in exotic destinations[3]

Code red

On August 27, 2011, the Billabong Pro Tahiti event was placed on hold as a massive swell came bearing down on Teahupoo. With forecasts calling for surf of an unprecedented size, some of surfing’s finest descended on the island to answer the call. Despite a “Code Red” called by the Tahitian Coast Guard, which sought to keep everyone on shore, a mixture of World Tour Pro’s, Big-Wave Hellmen and locals took on the surf. See the historic day through the eyes of two surfers — the young gun Laurie Towner and the veteran Dylan Longbottom — as they ride some of the largest, most dangerous surf ever recorded, much of it captured with the super slow motion Phantom Camera for never-before-seen imagery.[4]
